Mega Kudos for the website. I loved my tour on the Springfield. I could write a book about all the experiences, some of which
probably should never be put in print. After a short stint back aft as 3rd Division JO I was moved forward to the bow as 1st
Division Officer. The LPO was BM1 "Pappy" Huston. At the time I was 23 years old and I thought "Pappy" was as old as dirt.
He wasn't of course, it just seemed that way.
The ship left Villefranche in January of '67, the last US Forces to leave France. We ere relieved in Rota Spain by the Little
Rock after which we headed to Boston for yard work. Shortly after arriving in Boston I was sent off to Vietnam has an advisor
to CG 44, more commonly referred to as the Vietnamese Junk Force. From the frying pan into the fire. I still keep in touch
with a few friends from those days on the Springfield and would love see more. Have "fair winds and following seas". Once
more, Congrats on the Website. |

Great website, brings chills to my skin to see the Old Lady. I served on her from 1963 to 1965 home port VilleFrance. lotsa
happy memories. I just joined military.com and added my name as a shipmate of the Springfield. someone was asking whatever
happened to the Springfield and I remembered your website from last year so I sent them the information. I hope your group
of snipes have already joined the military.com website. My neighbor here in florida was on the Littlerock around the time
it relieved the watch from the Springfield as ComSixthFleet. The Springfield came back to the Brooklyn navy yard for about
6 months and then did a shakedown cruise in Gitmo and then back to the Med to relieve the Littlerodk as ComSixthFleet. |

I came across some info on Google Earth about the current ship that is now 6th Fleet Flag and that is calling Gaeta home port.
Felt good just looking back on Lucky 7 and thinking of the good times pulling Med. duty. Miss my friends from the day. Sorry

I was transferred to the Springfield in July of 1967 when it was in the Boston yards. Served until June 1968 when I completed
my 4 years. I was in Sonar - STG3. I have some photos from then. I'll dig through my stuff, scan them and email them to you

recent reunion this past April. I have located five of my best shipmates and we all got to see each other again after 40+
