Comments: I served onboard 1978 to 1982, my first tour of duty out of boot camp. I met her in Oslo, Norway at the start of a NATO cruise. Me and BTFN Kealy flew over together leaving Mayport Florida in tank tops and shorts and arriving in Oslo with snow on the ground and getting our first crazy cab ride; how's that for a real world experience? I got into some trouble here and there while on her but my chain of command always stood up for me - many good men there. I stayed in the Navy and SKC Beals and SK1 Dave Potts had a lot to do with that.

Those of us in the skeleton crew with motorcycles got them ferried from Mayport to the yards in the ASROC magazine--not bad. Served under RMC Don Sherrill & LTJG Peter Aranow...both good men, even if Pete WAS a Harvard man. Still remember winning the radio event in the COMCRUDESFLOT12 "Olympics"; good times in the era of the Zumwalt "Z-grams".

Comments: Some people should not jopin the NAVY. I am one of those people. Various BT rates, up & down. I was a bad boy I guess. Aft Fire Room. Remembering a lot of things. Remembering joining the ship in the yards in Philly in 1976. We lived on tan APL tied up aft of the ship. I was on the ship 3 months before I figured out the APL weasn't part of the ship. Remembering Captain Guilbault's frustration with me not wanting to stay in after the birth of my first son. Remembering the patience of my leaders, ie, Bobby Overstreet, John Cassick, Al "The Weeble" Saucier. Remebering dropping a can of aluminum paint squarely onto the back of Tony Czban one deck below me. That was a very cool thing, but I sincerely regret it. Skateboarding all over Europe with BM Warren Seaman. Spending the evening of my 21st birthday with an unnamed machinist mate riding around in a horse-drawn wagon around Cairo, Egypt smoking hash out of a hookah. Snorkling in Gitmo. Eating figs from a tree in Ville Franch, France while listening to a busker (badly) playing Bob Dylan songs. Remembering Drew Amici, who was a very nice guy and who became quite disallusioned one day and locked himself in his Barber Shop and proceeded to dismantle it with a chipping hammer. I remember being harassed by Kahki Blackie, who was simply venting his frustration on the enlisted men because the bigoted morons who bunked with him did really dumb things to him. Playing music with Sid and Bart on the weather deck and being invited by a club owner (The Woods) in Plymouth, England to play a show, which we did and which went over very well. Comments: Served in OE division from Dec.66 to Aug.69. Served under Chief Mac who was the best boss I've ever had and would like to know anything about him. I've been to the 2 reunions Pizon did and the one Donnie Smythe put on in Hampton. Great ship and the best crew and times for a young guy from rural Ohio. Would like to hear from anyone from that tome.
