Comments: A really great memorial to what looked like a wonderful town. I grew up in Wilkes-Barre and will soon be moving to Carbondale after spending 20 years in the US Navy. Both of my grandfathers worked in the coal mines near Pittston so I have a soft spot for the old mining communities. I remember the Centralia fire being in the news during the early 80s. It's sad to watch a good town fade away.

Comments: Thank you sir for taking the time to not only contact me back, but also for investing your time and energy into the history that you share here. You have made me feel as though I have walked where you and many other residents have walked and have felt a sense of what you had called home. Thank you!

Comments: Mike, I just wanted to commend you on a great layout and documentation/preservation of this landmark place. I frequent the area and love history, and the more I delve into Centralia's past, along with Byrnesville's, it makes me proud that at one time these 2 communities thrived and prospered. I look forward to meeting people from there and surrounding areas that can give us a slice of history as they lived it and we can all share for future generations to come. Your towns will forever be etched within. Keep the faith and good health to resume such a journey in time.

Comments: It really is a shame to think that this whole disaster in Centralia could have been easily prevented. It is a very tragic story. These pictures very clearly show the beauty of the past with the sadness of the now. I hope people in the future have learned from what happened here and in Centralia, so it never happens again.

Comments: I can't imagine seeing my home town where my family was deeply rooted be dismantled before my very eyes...piece by piece. It must take a strong man. Very impressive documentation and photos. The lot layout was interesting and helped paint a crystal clear picture of the town. I am quite interested in my own home town, although with 100,000 people, it's a little harder to keep track of the history. It's comforting to know that in a life that moves so quick, someone has taken the time to remember the sanctity of family and simplicity. Thanks.

Comments: This is very fine effort. As a decendent of Centralia/Aristes early settlers, I really enjoyed the history. Many members of my family are in St. Ignatius cemetery; including by Great-Grand Parents: Patrick and Margaret Lyons Garrah.
