Comments: Thanks for dropping by, AB. I've been away, but hope to be back on Blogdumps again soon. I, too, thought perhaps the "new humor" didn't resonate with me because I'm getting older. But, on second thought, I don't think that's it. My niece in her twenties loves the old "Golden Girls" and bought the DVD set for herself. To me, that show was what humor really is all about. True humor crosses generations and crosses time. What made the Greeks & Romans chuckle is not much different than what makes us chuckle today--true humor is like spirituality. It stands the test of time. Unfortunately, what is being passed off as humor today often is simply self-serving or humilates people or is tasteless. The media world has decided that what runs through the minds of teenage and twenty-something boys is what matters. Fortunately, that kind of humor rarely lasts. So I fully expect with the coming of 2012, we will not only return to things like integrity, peace, harmony and goodness, but also to true humor.

I don't do cell phones - therefore my rides are call free (much to the chagrin of my family) I do have the loud music issue, but I do not thump my way down a highway. Comments: That was a great post! It reminds me of how me and my girlfriends went riding around the island in Hawaii back in the late 80s. There were options available for a lot of cars then but we just had the radio on and the convertible top down. And we just drove around with the wind in our hair and our voices singing to Paul Young "Everytime You Go Away" on the radio...we were just being carefree and having fun in the car. It was great! Comments: Thanks for dropping by, you two. Yes, cars didn't even have FM on radios back then, AB. LOL No, Pete, you are not getting old. I also wonder when our young people have any "thought" time, and I-pods and cell phones steal away that possibility when they are out walking. I used to do some of my best thinking walking between classes/buildings when I was in college. That's all but gone now with the advent of "technology." Sigh.

I've mentioned our girl Snap to you a few times...when she was a pup she looked exactly like your Bambi and the only difference now is her ears went upright. Can't believe they look so much alike. I love your post and agree with everything you said...we firmly believe not only our canine friends but the felines primary purpose is to teach US (with any luck even the Michael Vicks of this world). Comments: For me a particularly relevent post today, RubySlippers...deep in thought (or memory) the last couple of days and knowing it's ever more clear how my faith kept and keeps me going. Not always easy, I know...sometimes we feel we are totally devoid of hope or faith and it's easy to lose sight of the divine in and around us. Fortunately, the divine never loses sight of us. Thank you on behalf of those reading this who now...or at any time in their lives...believed all of anything worthwhile was lost.

Comments: Yes, we are still amazed at the miracle of Quinn Bradlee and my niece Jackie. God does indeed bring you answers if you just keep the faith. VCF is not curable--so, perhaps some would say, so what difference will it make? Plenty for my sister; plenty for her future care. As for having to go through skepticism before arriving at faith, somehow I knew that you would resonate with that Maat. You are a seeker--both on the Internet and in life.

Title of Blog Entry you are commenting on: Original Skeptic
Comments: This post resonated with me big time, RubySlippers...if it's a theory then I'm also in for I've been there, done that, too. The upbringing...with the best of parental intention and my childlike belief that they...or the church...could never be wrong. Until I was about thirteen years old and did an about turn when I saw...and felt...how the church, it's Christian congregation 'responded' to my father's illness. At first I was agnostic, then aetheist about 'our' God and began a study of world religions and philosphies, finding I could relate to...and believe in...a number of there tenets. Then it was ambivalence for a time. This was not constant...I'd swing one way then the other...to, from. And life happens...when one understands that there is something greater than ourselves, there is a reason for being...for all of us. Academics are fine but being born to live a life with all it brings...good, bad, indifferent will teach us everything we need to know about our divinity. It may not tell us why we are here but we will learn by our very living what we can do here

Comments: Such wonderful news of your niece and sister, Rubyslippers!! A certain sadness that it has been so long but elation that now it is made right! And I was nodding and chuckling at little at your "information/internet junky". Ditto! For a number of years now I've maintained that were I younger I'd be looking for a career in 'searching' via pc's (or anything else!). Of course, it also gets me in some trouble from time to time...particularly from the medical fraternity and such members I'm not required to deal with. Thing is, I'm always surprised that even some computer-literate friends tell me they can't find this, that or the other while a couple of clicks and...there it is. Which is why I insist that while I don't exercise this body as I probably ought, I have the 'buffest' fingers on the planet...lol.

Title of Blog Entry you are commenting on: Re: Maat's post on Drugstores
Comments: Yes, Maat, the doctors don't want to hear it when you show concern about side effects. Maybe that has a little to do with the fact that most of them get KICKBACKS and perks from the drug companies. The more they prescribe, the richer they get. How sad. In the end, though, it's your body and your life--each of us must make our own decisions and not depend on just the doctor (who, after all, is only another human being, not a God). I can't imagine that doctors are thrilled with the Internet--people can find out things now that they used to keep to themselves.

Comments: I don't know how long I can make this response, RS, so there may be a continuation on mine (with a ref to yours, of course). This hit such a nerve with me for I've been debating whether or not to do a blog on my own latest experience with regards to medicines. For one thing, they treat (maybe) a symptom but they don't get to the root cause. Some of us know whatever ails us is likely at cellular level, know about the dietary benefits etc. I have to say, those around me and in my life...friends and family...all tell me they don't understand (any more than I do!) because I "have, consistently, the healthiest diet we know". But I was prescribed Lipitor...which I might add I hated the very idea. Even before someone thought I needed them and I'm talking nearly twenty years. ago. I did my research, I've done it again much more thoroughly of late, do not like what I hear, read, see or especially, feel. Two weeks ago, a cardiologist appt. and when he asked if I had any questions I said I was very concerned about taking statins...really did not like or want them. He cut me off at the pass..."you don't believe what you read, hear, see on the internet or media or from lay persons. You just trust ME..." End of story...no discussion. You can imagine my mood at that point!

There are legalities that are pretty complex. That's why I'd prefer to have a publisher publish it--and deal with all that. Even when something is in the public domain or meets a word limit, they often say to get permissions anyway just to be safe. Thanks for your comments!

Comments: Thanks for stopping by, Angelbaby. Yes, grammar is now obsolete in the world. As a former English teacher, that makes me sad. Education, unfortunately, in both high school and college, emphasizes "entertaining" the student more than "educating" the student. Too much competition for their minds--TV, internet, movies, videogames--these are a lot more interesting that dull ol' grammar and spelling. :-) I went to your site and I am assuming you are referring to that great Esther Hicks video you have on there. Comments: Loved this post, Rubyslippers, and also gave me a few good chuckles, my own experiences pretty much paralleling yours! One of mother's momilies "Swearing shows a poor command of the English language!" And yet, as you say, first time I ever let loose with "that word" (at 47yrs. old), while shocked and ashamed of myself, it alleviated a LOT of pent-up emotion. And, every once in a while.........! But I do loathe the gratuitous usage, common today. Clicks!

Sometimes they squeeze a little to tight and I just tell them to loosen their grip because it hurts and they do. They are the ones that give me what to say on my blog. It is theirs and they control what goes on there. I am enjoying it immensely and having allot of fun with them too. Love and Blessings, AngelBaby

Comments: Thought-provoking dilemma, Rubyslippers. I read it over twice..one right after the other and, of course, "knew" what I would have done. But did I? Alas, no. Like yourself, I would have jumped to be there for the gentleman and his children; soon as I saw the young man start to count out his change I would have paid for his pack of cigarettes. But...it doesn't end there. For had I had both those opportunities to help a fellow traveller, then been in line with someone about to face the same difficulty to buy a bottle of wine or a 6-pack of beer I'm afraid I would not have been so ready, regardless of my best intentions. Why not? Well...I don't like my answer (any more than you did yours. The family man was a given...he is feeding children as well as himself, probably not much money and yet doing the best he can to take care of their needs. The young man? I'm a smoker. I know this addiction, I know the craving, I don't pretend to understand or enjoy either one but I know how it feels and could not not see the young man 'stuck'. The person with the wine/beer? I'm not tee-total, I understand that for this person the craving, the desire, the need could be as great as the young man's for a smoke but I don't know how he/she feels so my thought would be I'd sooner buy him/her a rotisserie chicken, a sandwich, take him/her for a meal. I know I'm interfering in his or her choice...that good old saviour complex that somehow I chose to ignore with the smoker. It's not an answer and I don't like the admission of judgement. But your dilemma did bring me face to face with something disturbing in me I need to work on.

Title of Blog Entry you are commenting on: Church and Torture
Comments: Great post, RubyS. You know, for a very long time I haven't believed too many people who go to church are there to follow Jesus but, rather, to follow religion, the church tenets and for me therein lies the dichotomy. I haven't found much in churches that pertain to congregants or psstors/priests living life with a wholly (or holy..) Christ-conscientiousness. I know you are not a C/W fan any more than I am but I'd ask you to listen to this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQjRxdMEGds&feature=related (cut and paste into your browser might be necessary). I heard this a few years ago and actually felt it. May just be a song but it spells it out, exactly...for me. Truth be told, we actually listen to this most Sundays and, oddly enough, each of us have a copy we bought independent of the other. (You might, instead, want to just type in The Outlaw's Prayer to youtube...you'll find it). Again, a wonderful post.

Comments: Not at all surprised when reading your post. My husband used to always say how egotistical of "us" to believe we are the only intelligent life in the universe. He didn't...now whether it was simply him being open to it, wishful thinking or something to do with the work he did for 25yrs....??? But I think I mentioned to you once that he and I had seen 'something' many years ago, living in Maine and, if I'm not mistaken, I think it's Pease AFB in Maine that has been mentioned on several occasions with regards to UFO's. Since we have been here, in Delaware, we believe we have seen one over the golf course, adjacent to the house...we had watched this object for a stretch of about five miles, heading home late one night and, eventually, pulled over to the shoulder and stopped, opened up the sun roof and continued to watch until it disappeared but whatever it was just hung there for a good twenty minutes. Not too long ago, within less than a year, I've also been reading about sightings over Scotland but that isn't so unusual. I remember, before I probably even knew what a UFO was, watching an odd light hanging above the hills I could see from my bedroom window. Think I was around fifteen. Still...much as I would love to know the proof, to meet such a being, like I feel about the Loch Ness Monster. I do believe there is something to it but I hope no-one finds it/them because knowing us...the global society as a whole...we will not treat them kindly. And to be honest, I really don't doubt the stories which came and come out of Roswell which, if proven to be accurate, we have NOT treated them kindly until now.

Comments: You make a good point, Maat. I guess there is a difference between liking and loving, even though we often use them interchangeably. "Like" is easy to determine with people. "Love," however, seems more abstract and harder to pin down. I'm not surprised you "love" people and understand we are all one--you've been several rungs higher on the spiritual ladder than most people for quite a while! Thanks for posting and your always perceptive insights.

Title of Blog Entry you are commenting on: Does Anyone Really Like People
Comments: Hmmm...thought-provoking post, Rubyslippers. In a sense, I'm a bit like the young boy and the woman with a slightly different...ummm...perspective. I love people but I don't always like them. I remember even saying that to my three year old, once. She and I had had a difference of opinion (as much as an adult can have with a toddler!) during which she pouted and stated "I don't love you!". Took me aback and much as I wanted to yell at her "Yes, you do! Of course you do and never say that to me again!" I, calmly as I could, said "Well, I think you do love me but, right now, you don't like me. That's fine...I love you, I always will but I'm not liking you much right now, either...". As she got older she actually brought up this past discussion and we talked about it. As I see it, personally, I do love people for the very reasons you named...we are all one. And as you also stated, it can take time for each of us to learn self-love. How true it is that until we do, we cannot love another fully. If we have no love of ourselves there is none to give. But I do know I can love others yet for a given reason at a particular moment, I may not like them for a little while. I can remember with my nearest and dearest, (not my daughter this time) responding "You know...I really, really love you but, more than that...I genuinely like you." I got a puzzled look until I explained how I saw it; we can love without liking but to love as well as like...a plus. And if/when I 'don't like'...it's just temporary and usually, if honest, due to my allowing something another person says or does to affect how I allow myself to feel. But it doesn't change the love.

Comments: Such a wonderful post, Rubyslippers...made me cheer out loud! As did Ms. Boyle...I am totally thrilled for her, about her and her extraordinary gifts. Yes, gifts...for not only has she shared the gift of that beautiful voice but, if we will accept it, the gift of probably an unintentional and valuable lesson. I'd say that my generation were raised in the belief never to judge any book by it's cover. Personally, Ms. Boyle has a wonderful 'cover'...see those eyes just sparkle and shine? Notice that warm GENUINE smile and laughter, and how could we miss her modesty? I hope and believe success will remain hers...and that "they" make no attempt to make her over, change her. And...take it from me, she is a typical Scottish 'wifie' (woman, not the marital status wife) with her sense of humour, her understatements and life..."it is what it is". Oooo-Rahhhh, Ms. Boyle!

Title of Blog Entry you are commenting on: The Universe Will Answer
Comments: With Easter pending I'd made a couple of trips down memory lane, Easters spent as a child...and referred to a couple in my blog. The foremost was the mention of my aunt and uncle's holiday "cabin" and I believe I made mention of it twice in recent days. At any rate, blogs written these halcyon days of childhood stayed with me, talked about with my significant other. Yesterday, while we were waiting to take care of something we promised our neighbours those 'huts' set in a farmer's field about fifteen miles from the city, came to mind. What were the odds I would find anything? I admit I did use 'google', typed in my obscure question and, lo and behold...the first hit, top of the google page...there was the 'answer'! It was a blog post written by the head of BBC Scotland about this very field, those very cabins and the fact that, as a lad he and his family spent the seven weeks school summer vacation in this very place. He spoke of his memories, matching mine. There was a photograph of a hut identical to my aunt's at the head of his post. And his blog was written because there is a campaign going on to preserve this site. All these years, off and on I've enjoyed my memories of the huts, many of them I could have looked it up but didn't. Probably had I done so three, five, ten years ago i would have found nothing as this solitary article was written this March. I am still amazed and tickled to have found this...although whether I found it or it found me...??? Great post, RubyS.

Comments: We were just talking about this a few weeks ago...that there could be an up-side to the dire news of the "economy tanking". In fact, over the weekend we noticed our local WalMart has made drastic changes in one dept., adding many more aisles of gardening items...the seeds, bulbs, tools, books, canning jars and this is exactly what we remarked...that even the retail stores are anticipating a return to doing for ourselves. Maybe it's an age thing but we are loving the prospect! Hopefully it will take hold and the younger generation, especially, will learn life does not have to be frenetic, we don't need 24/7 "lifelines" and health of body-mind-spirit isn't bought and paid for by plastic but how we choose to live. And again I had to chuckle...had plans to do this a couple of months ago but, this week, I am attempting to make my own laundry soap..no toxic or irritating chemicals. Sure..nothing to do with the financial aspects but just better living. Wait for the blog...lolol!

Title of Blog Entry you are commenting on: Individual Decisions
Comments: And now you've had me thinking, on a lazy Sunday! Admittedly, not for the first time but for the umpteenth...perhaps a little deeper and, in some ways, with a touch of self-ridicule. I mean, what was it about a young man arriving an hour early to spend a week's vacation with his girl-friend and her family that set the gir-friend on a not simply different path but one that had never even been imagined? That he was an hour early and so 'deprived' her of the romantically fantasized welcome at the railway station...or the golf clubs hanging off his shoulder as she watched him walk down the cul-de-sac so unexpectedly (while she was putting on her jacket and arguing with kid sister about dishes!)? Dating long-distance (ummm...84 miles from each other! LOL) for two years by then, talk of pending engagement/marriage...and a split second "Oooh...I don't want him...or this...". As you said there have been other instances during the journey to which this decision gave birth and, yes...when I mull my life over I do equate circumstances to the philosophy expounded in "It's a Wonderful Life"! Were it not for this or that, would there have been that or this...and so on. Not just how life may have been different for another person (or not) but how mine might have evolved. Mother always said "What's before you won't go past you...", she believed "a'thing's meant" and I while learned to consider this at an early age it took a lifetime to believe it and see how things all fell into place. Great...and interesting post, Ms. RS!

Comments: LOLOL! Forgive me, Ms. Rubyslippers...enjoyed your latest blog article so much could do nothing but laugh! (Well..until the last couple of paragraphs where you certainly make a good case for a better obit). Oddly enough, about a month ago we attended the funeral of a friend/colleague of my other half. When we were leaving the funeral home to join the cortege to the cemetary I did tell warn her that "should you do that to me, I WILL come back to haunt you! Don't you dare!" Which, initially was reference to the minister conducting the service who did not the deceased or, obviously, vice-versa...just someone called upon to formalize the service. It did, however, get me to thinking about eulogies. I think I'm going to write my own then I'll know what is said or written (and what is NOT!) Control unto the end! You are absolutely 'right on'!

Title of Blog Entry you are commenting on: Better Dead
Comments: LOL! Well, as morbid as it may sound, obituaries interested me even in my younger years but I believe you have something there...in that once living away from where you grew up (and getting older ourselves), it's a way of keeping tabs on anyone we ever knew there? Like "What are they doing/where are they now?" Obits are a wealth of information! Married, kids, grandkids, what they did, where they worked...sometimes we find out much more in an obit than we ever knew during the deceased's life. And have you noticed that nobody these days..unlike, say, a couple of decades ago, dies of 'natural causes' or old age? It's true, though...the litany of the person's wonderful qualities and good deeds. You're right about a lesson learned, how we can all live and live up to the good in ourselves, live what our eulogies might read at the end. But I wonder...did those who've gone know they were held in such esteem, that they're loved ones, friends and family saw beyond the pettiness which caused family arguments, estrangements; as much as they now appreciate how helpful and kind, how good the loved one was with others, time spent doing for anyone and everyone? And if they/we didn't tell them while they were living...why not? Why wait until the loved one dies, not knowing at all what they meant or gave to another life on their path and, instead of just publishing it in a condensed bio, we tell people how we appreciate not just what they are but who they are.

Comments: WOW! Some house...and yes, as someone is reported as saying "It's nice..." that the current bishop didn't seem to see the need for such grandeur and is living in a small seminary apartment but the house and furnishings were left/given to the church. Surely the decent, even reciprocal, thing to do would be to put home and furnishings to charitable use? Use it as you stated or...I can even see putting it to use for aged and infirm nuns who, at the end stages of life, get and have nothing. I hardly think they have a dire need to sell the place for the diocese or 'the church'.

Comments: Ooops...lolol! I forgot...I think! It was Neal Donald Walsch. I really found his CWG, the following workbook and the third book, very interesting...actually, I think I probably have all of his, even if he did seem to be churning them out, suddenly, (though found some to be repetitive) because I did share similarities of thinking. So I was somewhat shocked to read of his plagiarism on www.beliefnet.com (the site which ended their association). But, speaking of books and authors with a spiritual leaning...like yourself...are you familiar with Paulo Coelho? He writes novels...mostly...from a somewhat spiritual, certainly philosophical leaning. You might enjoy them.
