Comments: My family came from the Chester area and in fact many of them are still in the Ottawa/Kent County areas. On your site, when it shows military/maiden: what exactly is the info on? You show Rascelas McClain as 1865, Civil War 21 Aug 1861-22 Feb 1864. Also it shows his obituary Jul 23, 1909 but then the cemetery comment is Feb 1857. Something doesn't add up. Please contact me if you have anything confirming all this.

It gradually changed from a fraternal organization that originated in London, On. to a licensed insurance company. The largest number of members were in Canada and Michigan. Comments: Great work. I sure appreciate the tremendous amout of work you have put into this site. I was born in Chester township in 1930 and have a lot of relatives that came from there. My Grandfather was Charles Keas and my great grandfather was John Keas (aka. Kease, kies & Keyes.) 1833-1884. John is buried in Bennett and Charles is buried in Trinity Lutheren. Under cemeteries you have John Keas 1833-1888. My records indicate he died Jan. 5 1884. Also he served in the infantry 2-14-1865 to 2-17-1866. His name is spelled Keyes on his discharge papers. He owned 79 A in sect. 16 and 80 A in sect. 15 where he built a log cabin and later a conventional house, most of which still stands today with several add-ons. I will check with Ottawa county records on date DOD. Thanks again for all your work. Art Larwin (aka. Art Lenski)

Are there any records of Lodge members from Illinois? Could she have inherited it from someone else? I can take a picture of the ring, but it has the Lodge crest on it with a black square background on a gold ring. It's also great to learn the history of Conklin. I've only heard stories behind building and with your pictures, it sure does make those stories real. I do havea suggestion, and it may prove too much work to be worth doing, but it would be really neat to see the history behind some of the older houses in Conklin(What families lived in them, and when they were built). I am particularly interested in the houses on Conklin St(I grew up at 19708) and the houses on Main Street(since most of them were businesses at one point in time). Keep up the GREAT work! Thank you!

He also still takes care of the family farm which now raises feeder cattle. His father Richard and mother Eveleen are still living in the old farmhouse at 21507 40th ave.

Comments: We are pleased to see this site. We now live @ 4504 13 mile rd one house from the corner of Gooding. Just tonight a neighbor came by and told us about some of the history of this area. We purchase the home from Joe Ostman and he from Baehre. Mr Baehre owned what is now two farms on the north and south sides of 13 mile east of Kenowa. The old railroad went across the back of this property. I am very interested in learning about the area and specifically this house. I was told this is the oldest house on the road. When was this house built? Before the town of Gooding sprang up? Who built it and what did he do? Farm? Please contact us or advise us of how we might gain more information about this area and this house. Respectfully, Greg

Comments: You would think that as site administrator, I would know my site's correct URL. This one above is correct. The one in the first message is wrong. I think this means that I'm human and do make mistakes. That's one of the reasons that I welcome your comments. No matter how well researched, mistakes can be made. Let me know if you find one.
