went and saw the old guy last weekend for the first time at his new home at akindale farm, he was hanging out w/ his buddy
Remington. they both came right up to us and i got to touch my favorite race horse for the first time, which was really cool,
ive seen him race many many times at belmont and saratoga but never had the chance to get that close...then Karin from the
akindale showed up and brought him out of the field to get an even closer look, which was even better. despite EA trying to
take my hand off, he can be a little feisty, the experience was awesome!!! Karin then showed us some of the other horses
around the farm and then let us drive around and look at all the horses they keep, the farm is beautiful. if u ever get a
chance to visit the farm i highly recommend it. It looks like EA has found a great place for his retirement. |

Great movie on Evening Attire on Bloodhorse.com We visited EA and his friends Remington (super friendly) and Action ( a little
timid because he was a new-comer) at Aikindale Farm earlier this year and had a great time! Many thanks to Erin and the staff
that take such good care of these horses. Please remember to support farms like Aikindale that provide such an important service

Yesterday I finally made it out to Akindale Farm to visit Evening. He is great. First off the farm is enormous and gorgeous.
It reminds me of some of the farms in Kentucky--very classy. Erin was nice enough to bring us out to see Evening. I have
seen him numerous times racing, walking in front of me in the post parade--walking inches away from me-- What I didn't realize
until yesterday is how tall he is and how long his legs are---freakishly long. This is probably how he would "catch" and
pass everyone else. I was surprised as to how "frisky" Evening is. On the track and in the paddock before a race he seemed
so mellow. He is a hand full--but nothing but a gentleman. Loves the carrots and peppermints. It was an honor to finally
pet and feed one of my heroes. He seems really happy and really gets on with his friends Remmington and Action. As a matter
of fact as I was driving away Evening was standing watch over Remmington who was lying on his side taking an afternoon nap.
I recommend anyone who loves this horse to go out and visit. He really was showing off for us and you can tell he loves
visitors. Supporting a farm like this is also a way for Evening fans to give back and say thanks. It's essential that these
athletes have a safe happy home after their careers are over--and that is what this farm does an incredible job with. Thank
God there are people like Erin and those that run the farm out there working so hard for our athletes. And Steve, thanks
for letting us know all about Akindale. Can't wait to go back and see him in a couple of months. |

I just wanted to let everyone know tha tmy husband and I went to see our favorite horse, Evening Attire last Saturday. He
has been retired to Akindale Farm which is about 50 miles north of NYC. The old boy looks great!!!!!!! Akindale Farm is
about 1000 acres. They do breeding, train horses and have a rescue adoption program. They currently have about 150 horses
up for adoption.
Evening's pen is at the top of a hill which is the highes point of the farm. His stall is in the training barn. He shares
a pen with his new friend Remington who is the track pony on the farm. He looked great and seems real happy. Erin, who
gave us the tour, said he has not lost any weight. She couldn't believe how good his legs are for a 10 year old horse. She
gives so much credit to Pat Kelly. Erin said that the Kellys and the Grants were looking at a farm where Evening would have
his own stall. They wanted to keep him NY but did investigate Old Friends. The Kellys have visited him once on a freezing
cold day.
Evening came right over to us. We had carrots and mints for him and Remington. Evening figured out that my husband had them
in a bag and tried to get into the bag. He loved the attention and I must have given him about 10 hugs and kisses. We took
great pictures but because of my old crappy computer, I can't post them.
It was a real treat to see him and I am relieved to see that he is a happy horse. We saw him at a farm in 2006 when they
tried to retire him and he seemed like he was saying that he wanted out.
He has given my husband and I so much joy and I just want him to have the happiest retirement

Loved your site - especially the photo of you with "grandpa". I didn't know that was his nickname.
I wanted to send you a picture taken of me with Lavaman the week before he won his 3rd Hollywood Gold Cup, I couldn't figure
out what your email address was. He is leading the post parade at Santa Anita tomorrow. He'll be strutting his stuff, I'm
sure - he too is a star and knows it. I read that the last couple races of his career he didn't win, but tried to drag them
to the Winner's Circle anyhow. These guys sure have it all figured out - they are very very smart.

etc. Kip Deville (an OK bred), and the reining king of the track with all his grace and elegance - Curlin. |

That's tough, I have always been a believer in Big Brown. I do like Zenyatta alot. There was also a horse named Daddy Joe
that raced in NY, but I haven't heard anything on him for quite awhile. I hope he is ok. |

EA's retirement was a sad day for horse racing. He always gave his all and went out a winner. Hope he has a day at Saratoga

within months of each other is heartbreaking. |

But I do love his story as well as Affirmed, Alydar, Seattle Slew, Sunday Silence and Charismatic (especially with his jockey
having been from SC) |

Wow, Its a sad day, I was looking forward to seeing him run at Santa Anita on BC day, but thankfully the problem was noticed
before he ran again, and I'll always remember watching him walk out of the gate every time!
I "met" him at Mill Creek Farm in Saratoga a few years back while he was standing in "retirement". The stable hand let me
into his stall and snapped a picture of me with him, he was enormous, and knocked my in the forehead with his nose. In the
stall across the hall was Mayokovsky. |

There should be a tribute to EA at Saratoga next Summer, the place where he was certainly a horse for the course. Parade him
in front of the grandstand. He would love to hear the applause one last time at the track he loved. I also hope they find
a home for him upstate. |

A great website for a great horse! We will miss 'Big Grey' so much; my husband and I loved to see him run. I wish the racing
world had more of these 'iron-horses' horses running instead of racehorses who only run a year or two. I hope EA finds a

I read about his owners are going to try to find him a good home. How about using him as a training pony for other horses
that are just starting, maybe sending him to Old Friends in KY, or maybe just letting him be a horse the rest of his life.

I'm so happy that he is a stable pony for Tagg. That's all he's ever known is the track. He didn't like being turned out in
some paddock, he was board. That's what Robin Smullen (asst. trainer) told me. Funny thinks Robin he's girlfriend. I feel
the the same way about Funny as you do Evening. |

Ran a smart race against horses that couldn't get the 12 furlong distance. May have tougher European competition but will
represent us well if he runs in the BC. Always tries his best. Can't ask for more. |

Drift and any horse over the age of 8 and still running. |

My favorite story is from Saratoga. I'd been waiting to see him all day and take pictures - I had two rolls of film at the
ready! The newbies who were sitting behind me finally asked who I was all excited about and I regaled them with tales of
his exploits. When the race came, he walked out of the gate (like always!) and was left far behind. The people sort of snickered
at me. "Just watch", I told them. Sure enough, he started motoring at the far turn, and ended up a close third. They couldn't
believe how much ground he had made up! |

We used to be lucky enough to spend almost the whole season at Saratoga, but the past couple years we have only done a couple
of weeks and a few odd days here and there (I love Steeplechase Thursdays...). |

My husband and I were at the race yesterday. We try to get to all of his races. We have seen him at Keeneland Aquaduct, Belmont
and now Pilly park. We also got to visit him when he was in his short retirement at Mill Creek. Evening was just awesome!!!!!!!!! |

carrots and he loved him. We tried to give him an apple and didn't want any part of it. He was very friendly and loved the

I am a huge fan of horseracing and it is dissapointing to see horses every year that are being sent to the breeding shed by
the end of their 3 year old year. It is such a joy to watch Evening still running as a 10 year old at the level he is. I

My track is only 15 mins away but I don't go because I learned they send horses to slaughter. Every time I saw one in win
circle I would wonder- is this his/her last race? When handlers would be mean to losers after the gallop out I would wonder
- will they be sent away today? It was too much. I am in rescue, and the best thing that has happened is Suffolk's zero
tolerance policy. My fave filly was on Final Turn gallery, and the text said how hard CANTER tried to save her, but her owner
chose to send her to slaug anyway. It broke my heart. |
