Wonderful photos, found Grandpa in 3 photos. He also served in WW1 and is shown in uniform. In back is a list of men with their home address's; many are listed. I was too young at the time for him to tell me stories, but WOW ! That bitter cold and all that construction they did. I got a kick out of the drawings that were done in the memory book. Now sharing that info with my son who is very interested in Military History. Glad to see theres a site in memory of the work my grandfather was involved in. Thanks

Stan was from Kannapolis, NC. He passed away in 1974 due to severe heart disease. If anyone remembers him, please contact me. Stan never married, but her certainly spolied his neices and nephews. Your site was the first I knew of what had occurred. The only item I have is a V-mail and one photograph of Daddy and two of his men. They are surveying but I don't know if it was a road or an airstrip. He was 41 years old when he enlisted in 1942. His BS from the U. of Nebraska was in Geology and he had a great deal of Civil Engineering experience. He was from Decatur, Nebraska. I still miss him.

Comments: My father was on Guam during Lion 6. He wrote me this after I read your site and sent it to him. "The SS Hawaiian Shipper was the ship I was on when we landed on Guam. We went in after the second wave of marines to set up a Naval Base. Since I was a Petty Officer, my first crew cleaned off the area of dead japs and body parts and buried them. Then we dug latrines after the camp ground was laid out. Just anything that needed to be done my crew of six sailors and I did, from setting up hanging water bags to erecting tents in rows (11x11 pyramid type-two or three man types.) By the time we got this all done the Seabees had established a water system, mess hall tents, and hospital section. There were casualties arriving daily from other islands. The Seabees did a remarkable job building a complete navy station where there was nothing but rubble! Lion 6 was the second huge battalion constructed after 1,2,3,&4 had already been assigned to Guadal Canal. Lion 6 was to be the last unit to Tokyo!" dad
